About this rate

A term deposit (fixed deposit, Festgeld, compte à terme) locks your money for a set period in exchange for a rate that is fixed for the whole term. You usually cannot withdraw early without losing the interest. Because the rate is fixed, a term deposit protects you if rates fall but leaves you behind if they rise; laddering several terms is a common compromise.
